Lachlan Philpott is a Sydney based writer, dramaturg, teacher and dog person. He has a long- term collaborative partnership with director Alyson Campbell. As a writer Lachlan has worked with companies and festivals around the world with recent projects at The American Conservatory Theatre San Francisco, Australian Theatre for Young People, Crowded Fire Theater San Francisco, Edinburgh Festival, Hothouse Theatre Albury, Kansas State University, La Comedie Francaise Paris, The Lark New York, Mardi Gras Sydney, Malthouse Melbourne, Merrigong Theatre Company Wollongong, The Mac Belfast, Midsumma Melbourne, Melbourne Festival, The National Theatre of Croatia, Sydney Theatre Company, The Traverse Theatre Edinburgh, Troisieme Bureau Grenoble, Red Stitch Melbourne and Urban Theatre Projects Sydney.

Lachlan has worked extensively as a teacher, mentor and dramaturg at theatre companies, schools and tertiary institutions around the world. Recently he has completed dramaturgical work on Home Country for Urban theatre Projects and Sydney Festival. Recent teaching residencies have been at American Conservatory Theatre, Edinburgh University and The Victorian College of the Arts. Lachlan was the program manager of Australian Theatre for Young People’s Emerging Writers’ Program and has been writer in residence at Keesing Studio at The International Cite des Arts Paris, The American Conservatory Theatre San Francisco, Newington College Sydney, Griffin Theatre Company, The Playwrights Foundation San Francisco, Red Stitch Melbourne and was part of The Traverse Fifty at the Traverse Edinburgh. In 2013 he was awarded an Australia Council Cultural Leadership grant to study new play development models in several countries and an Australia Council Keesing Literature Residency in Paris in 2016-17. Lachlan was the inaugural Australian Professional Playwright Fulbright Scholar and Chair of the Australian Writer’s Guild Playwrights’ Committee between 2012 and 2015.
